Rethinking Drinking (www.rethinkingdrinking.niaaa.nih.gov ). An outstanding, self-directed resource for people who want to assess their alcohol use or are interested in ways of managing or eliminating it from their lives. 

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (www.samhsa.gov). This is an excellent website for both substance abuse (including smoking) and mental health issues. It provides an authoritative, research based perspective across the range of substance use/abuse to addiction. Very informative and impartial bases for informed thought and discussion.

Alcohol and Substance Abuse Recovery for Friends and Family Members (12-Step Meetings) 

Al-Anon and Alateen (www.ncwsa.org) are support groups based upon the 12-Step model for families and friends of alcoholics in Northern California. 

Co-Dependents Anonymous (www.coda.org) is a support group based upon the 12-Step model for people who want to develop healthy relationships using the Twelve Steps and Traditions (12-Step model).
