Kay (played by Meryl Streep) and Arnold (played by Tommy Lee Jones) have been married for 31 years. They love each other very much but have not been very affectionate or intimate with each other for years. They go to see Dr. Fields (played by Steve Carrell) for couples counseling. The story and acting are excellent — Kay wants to “fix their marriage” and Arnold is uncomfortable with the idea of therapy and, at first, refuses to go. Dr. Fields assigns some intimate tasks and discussions in his office are rough and awkward. There are issues that each person brought to the marriage — in that way, it was balanced and realistic. It is a great movie for people in long term relationships and an introduction to couples counseling. As inspiring this movie is to mature audiences, some of the scenes may make younger people squeamish.
