After being in private practice for a number of years, my approach to therapy has evolved considerably and includes a very diverse range of approaches and techniques. I rely heavily upon developing a good working relationship with clients that is founded upon an understanding of who they are, how they understand things, what they want, and what would benefit them.
I rely heavily upon developing a good working relationship
My broad background and experience allows me to work in a very synergistic manner. I am able to provide assistance in a number of ways. Some clients benefit from an educational foundation that I may provide through other resources, such as books, movies, groups, classes, and referral to other providers. Other clients need help with problem solving or developing a set of techniques to help them better manage situations. I also work with people who need assistance in managing more complex and difficult matters.
I employ a highly collaborative approach with clients in which we talk about what is happening
Reviewing my biographical summary, you will notice a strong background in education, research, and clinical work, as well as training and experience in a broad range of issues such as dealing with change (or transition), treating substance abuse or chemical dependency, and responding to severe situations (such as emotional trauma, natural disaster, and war).
I employ a highly collaborative approach with clients in which we talk about what is happening and develop a mutual understanding of what can be done to help them. I am often described as being perceptive and direct and I see myself as an active participant in the relationship and in identifying and resolving the issues that have brought them to my practice.
